Submission Policy

My plan... is not to run a poetry competition as such; but rather to post a series of natural world photos largely from my collection, and invite readers to use each picture as a short-poem prompt. The short poems I choose will then be displayed here on The Glow of Emerald Light, with the poet's name.

Covid-19 permitting, I intend to post poems at two-week intervals during the 'lockdown'. In another post, which you can find by clicking the link here, I hope to suggest a few ways of approaching our first submission challenge. I greatly look forward to receiving your work.

Rules
  1. All who submit work must be 18 years of age and over.
  2. This is an open site: the content must be suitable for all.
  3. Copyright of each poem will remain with its creator.
  4. Poems on this site should not be used elsewhere without the permission of the author (and, publishers, if you see something of interest, please ask using the email below).
  5. This site does not take previously published work.
  6. All who submit must state in their submission email that the work is their own and that it has not appeared in a public arena before.
  7. A single poem per person per challenge, please, unless the post in question says otherwise.
  8. Poems are selected by me, Caroline Gill, unless I appoint a deputy or guest editor. The poets whose work is selected will not normally be informed, so please check back on the Friday when poems are due to be posted. If your poem does not appear on the given date, please feel free to submit it elsewhere.
Submission guidelines
Please...
  1. submit poems (or queries) in the body of an email to glowofemeraldlight@gmail.com
  2. ensure you put 'Glow' plus the given challenge name in the subject line, e.g. 'Glow: Peacock butterflies'.
  3. follow 6. above, adding your name, country, and website (if applicable).
  4. note that poems appearing on this site will be considered 'previously published' work by most/many other outlets and competitions.
  5. note that there are no prizes for poems that are selected.
  6. note that submitted poems will not be returned, so please keep a copy.
These Photo Challenges are for five-line poems. You may find it helpful to press the link here for information to get you started. Details of Photo Challenge 5 (Glow-Worm) for a 5-line poem can be found here.
